The Torfspitzgrupe ( torf : pertaining to turf ; spitz : rat - terrier ; grupe : group). Skeletons of the Torfspitz is identified as existing in the stoneage.

The Torfspitz was not limited geographically to Germany but being present in widely distributed points over Europe and Asia.

There is no relationship between the Miniature Pinscher and the Doberman, being a relatively new breed within the last 100 years, evolved by a Mr. Doberman.

The Min Pin is known in its country of origin Germany, as the Reh Pinscher or Zwerg Pinscher.

The breed was used as a barnyard ratter controlling the rodent population in the stables.

TEMPERAMENT - The Miniature Pinscher is a hardy little fellow who is proud and courageous. They are loyal to their masters, a people dog, spirited and alert, with high energy, intelligent, lively and brave. Generally good with other pets and children, love to sleep under blankets. They will lay out in the sun shine and bask in it.

Miniature Pinschers are a watch dog second to none, for anything short of a bullett will not stop them when a stray intruder invades the home of its owner. This alertness is one of the reasons the Min Pin is so hard to beat in obedience, performing with precision accuracy and keeping their mind on the business at hand.

GROOMING AND EXERCISE - MinPins need regular exercise. Play will take care ofa lot of their exercise needs and a large secure run. They will also enjoy a good romp in a safe open area off a  lead, such as a fenced in yard. Make sure any yard in which they run loose has a fence height of at least 90 cm, to prevent their determined efforts to escape and explore, do not leave them unattended unless you have smooth fences of at least 1.5 meter high.

The Miniature Pinscher's smooth , short- hair, hard coat is easy to groom. Shampoo only when necessary. You can remove loose coat by wiping the coat with a warm damp cloth.
